ROANOKE - On Wednesday, Del. Sam Rasoul (D-11) released the following statement in the aftermath of a mass shooting in Atlanta that left eight dead, including six women of Asian descent, and according to early reports appears to be an anti-Asian hate crime.
“Today we are grieving as a nation, and as human beings, after another act of unspeakable hate cost eight lives in Atlanta last night. We are praying for the victims, their families, and the Atlanta community,” said Rasoul. “As a Muslim and as a child of immigrants, I know too well the fear and pain that has engulfed so many families today. I know many parents will be having the same difficult conversation I’ve had to have with my kids after tragedies like these. Our job now is to let our Asian American sisters, brothers and friends know they are not alone, and they will not face this hatred alone. We are with you.”
